Review: Bourjois Volume 1 Seconde Mascara

I am almost out of my second Miss Mange mascara, so I decided to venture out of my comfort zone and find a new mascara from a range I haven't used before, so when I saw this mascara in the Bourjois range, I thought I'd give it a go. Bourjois has never really appealed to me because I tend to stick to Maybelline, Revlon and Sleek; also, I find that the Bourjois colour range is much more suited to a fairer skin tone, but this little newbie caught my eye, hence todays #NewBlogpostTuesday

ps. I apologise about my skin, I was having the strangest breakout and my pores were not having it...

I have already established that mirrored mascaras are my weakest.

Although I hate having a smudgy mascara wand, I never turn down a mascara coated in glossy mirror like plastic; I also love the coral colour scheme and the font simplicity.
Is it me, or is the wand end so 'Benefit-like'. I'm not sure what it reminds me of exactly, but the shape looks like a Benefit product or the end of a cocktail shaker, which I have to say made me quite interested.
The other factor that forced my hand was the name; I remember thinking "1 second? Will it do crazy things to my eyelashes in 1 second? I'm in!"

Once again, the selling point of most mascaras is their unique wand.

Bourjois claim:
"Its patented brush is inspired by the professional hair styling brushes, with SPHERICAL BRISTLES that perfectly wrap lashes for 360° volume and STRAIGHT BRISTLES to create clump free definition."
~ Bourjois website
This wand looks like a thick salon styled hair brush, with a wide barrel and short straight bristles. I also noticed that there are tiny bumps in between the bristles, although I am not too sure after using this mascara what they are for. When I tried this mascara out for the first time, I looked for volume and pretty fanned out lashes, without any clumping.

To be honest, I am not that impressed with the results.

Without the mascara
With mascara
The mascara gave my lashes an instant lift and after a full coat, made quite a difference to lash length, but I don't really see a difference in volume. In comparison to the website claims, there was definitely an obvious fanning effect to my lashes, and the formula did not clump, no matter how much I waved the brush around or batted my lashes. But that's about it- there isn't really anything uniquely special about the mascara. The drying time is slower than others I have tried at about a minute and the formulation is certainly on the wet side.

I honestly expected the mascara to do amazing things to my lashes in one second, because of the name, but perhaps that was my mistake for being naive. Still, a clever tactic by Boujois to get customers to buy, which certainly worked on me! Saying all of that, a better name for this would be Length 60 seconds, but nobody will buy that!

Honestly, I think the L'Oreal Miss Manga remains my favourite for the time being and although the mascara did an OK job, I don't think at this point in time I will be repurchasing it.

That is that for another week, let me know if you have tried the Bourjois mascara and also if you agree/ disagree with what you have said.

As a small update, my YouTube channel artwork and stuff went live yesterday alongside a new Get Ready with Me video, so you should check out my handiwork on my channel main page and my new video here.

Until next time...

Weekly Loves.

Weekly Loves
The Vampire Diaries // The Body Shop Madagascan Vanilla fragrance mist // ZARA Floral baggy trousers // Maybelline black gel eyeliner // Benefit Bad Gal Lash // Urban Decay Buck Eyeshadow // Palmers Cocoa Butter Moisturiser // Six Years by Harlan Coben

I have always liked the idea of collecting your favourite products of the month and briefly reviewing them for others; obviously I already do that on my YouTube channel, but I also like the idea of looking at what I have been loving during a particular week.

This week has been full of sunshine, and incredibly warm for Britain at this time of year. It has also been my third week free from university, but I am now beginning to feel as if I don't do much with my time.

Still, I have finally managed to catch up watching The Vampire Diaries, including the season finale which I gave a miss during those last critical weeks while writing my dissertation. If you watch TVD and you haven't watched the finale, all I can say is how sad and happy I was all at once, because we gain and lose ( that was probably too much of a spoiler).
While I prefer to watch films and TV shows in the evening curled up on my sofa, in the day to occupy my mind, I have been reading, and I have finally finished Harlan Coben's Six Years. Not going to lie, that book is a serious contender to my beloved Dorothy Koomson novels. I know.

Since summer is almost here, my routine has begun to change; I have been using cocoa butter on rough patches of skin to get them smooth for leg baring weather, a fine light fragrance, that isn't too heavy, but is noticeable enough to make a difference and gel eyeliner to prevent sweat ruining my daily makeup look. And if my makeup is ruined, keeping at least a mini mascara ( in this case Benefit's Bad Gal lash) provides an easy emergence makeover.

Lastly, I finally managed to find an opportunity to re-wear my birthday trousers that I bought from Zara. I decided to pair them with an over-sized white tee, a geometric chunky necklace and a pair of simple gold and black T-bar sandals. I can't wait to unearth them again, sooner rather than later, because I was getting plenty of compliments about my "amazing trousers".

That's for this week- what have you been loving recently?

By the way, I will be unveiling some exciting new logos, banners etc for my YouTube and my Google+ page so make sure you check out my weekly uploads #NewVideoMonday and #NewBlogpostTuesday next week.

I really wanted to do the TMI Tag but I thought instead of using up a #NewVideoMonday on a tag, I would do it as a blog post instead- just something different, and at least it gave me time to think about my answers.
So, ready for TMI about me?

1: What are you wearing?
Accessorize earrings, a distressed tee from Primark and H&M jeggings
2: Ever been in love?
Sadly, not with a person, but do pastries count?
3: Ever had a terrible breakup?
4: How tall are you?
I think I am 5'5
5: How much do you weigh?
700lb... I'm not afraid to admit that #foodieforlife
6: Any tattoos?
Nope, not yet anyway
7: Any piercings?
I only have two, one in each ear, and that's the way it is going to stay. I'm not about the holey life.
8: OTP?
OMG? IDK? No seriously, OTP ( which means one true pairing for all of you that don't know) is definitely Judy and Benji, I love them and you guess know that!
9: Favourite show?
Pretty Little Liars and Devious Maids, which reminds me, I have some serious catching up to do!
10: Favourite bands?
I'm not a band kind of person, but I love Group 1 Crew and  I just discovered Royal Tailor; they are great too!
11: Something you miss?
I miss living at home, because right now I am living in a studio at university, I miss my Mum's home cooking

13: How old are you?
I am 21, my birthday is March 18th
14: Zodiac sign?
Pssh! I don't care for zodiac signs/ horoscopes, its all nonsense to me: why should get advice from the stars when I can get advice from the one who made the stars? Anyway, I would be a Pisces, fishy fishy!
15: Quality you look for in a partner?
Someone who loves God, faithfulness, honesty, a sense of humour and the ability to laugh at themselves
16: Favourite Quote?
"Do something today that your future self will thank you for." as well as 1 Peter 3:3-4, which is my YouTube channel motto and that says: "You should clothe yourselves instead with the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God."
17: Favourite actor?
Hmm, tough one, but I do love films with  Liam Neeson or Daniel Craig
18: Favourite colour?
Turquoise or mint
19: Loud music or soft?
Both, it depends how I am feeling!

21: How long does it take you to shower?
About 5-10 minutes, I don't think you need longer!
22: How long does it take you to get ready in the morning?
I timed myself the other day and it took my 15 minutes to do my makeup and hair, 10 minutes to pick an outfit, 7 minutes to shower and 15 minutes to eat, so almost an hour, but I give myself 2 hours for anything so I can faff about and take my time.
23: Ever been in a physical fight?
