Juicing January: My Favourite Juices for the Day!

When I think "New Year" the first thing that comes to mind is a detox. I know that to most people that five lettered word is a dirty word with all kind of implications- fast slims and ditching everything nice for rabbit food.
I thought the same and even though this year I told myself " Right, I have GOT to get healthier", I knew there would have to be a cupboard clear out at some point.

However this month I have gone fruit crazy and initiated my own #JuicingJanuary, starting off with the purchase of my very own blender.
( If you would like me to do a separate review blog post about my blender, comment below!)
I purchased a rocket blender from Argos which was going cheap and the same day I went to Asda and bought £20 worth of fruit and veg ( I kid you not- here is the picture to prove it!)

Fruit and Vegetable Grocery haul
For two weeks straight, I began a detox where I ate only and drank fruit and vegetables only and along the way I discovered some favourites which I am going to share with you today. There are four different recipes, including a green juice for breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert.

#1- T H E  P I N K  S U N R I S E R (MORNING)

Morning juices are best prepared the night before and left to chill in the fridge overnight
( it gives you a cold kick which is useful if you struggle to get out of bed for a Monday morning 9 'o' clock seminar *hands up*)
Tip: I like to squeeze a little lemon juice over the bananas before blending so they don't turn during the night
However, if you don't have the time, it can also be prepared first thing when you rise.

This one is the best red juice I made all week. The grapefruit is the undisputed king of morning kicks and is honestly quite bitter. The banana gives your stomach is beloved fibre and the cinnamon boosts your metabolism. Everything else is just for the sake of throwing things into a blender, but feel free to add and take out as you please.

1/2 banana, sliced
1/2 orange, peeled and cut into small chunks
handful of raspberries
1/4 pink grapefruit
1/2 cup of water
ice *optional*
dash of sugar *optional*
dash of cinnamon *optional*

I whip my juices for at least 45 seconds to get these little air bubbles, it makes the juices lighter
Pink Sunriser in a small 'party' ( serving) cup. I only have a little of this in the morning as it can be quite potent
I am completely amazed at the colour of this... and it is all 100% natural

#2- T H E  A L L  I N  O N E  S A N D W I C H ( LUNCH)

Not sure if you can tell, but this juice was initially an experiment... which turned out to be delicious. Unlike the previous juice, I went 'venti' size with the large party cup available with the blender since this was to fill me up until 6pm. So I threw in as much fruit as the cup could hold, added water and hit the switch.

1/2 banana, sliced
5 strawberries, sliced
1 green apple, sliced ( skinning is optional)
Handful of grapes, sliced in half
1 kiwi, skinned and sliced
Dash of sugar *optional*

I am well aware that the colour of this is definitely not as beautiful as the breakfast juice, in fact I'll admit it looks like you know what; however, the taste makes up for it.
( Just be careful to serve in an opaque cup if making for guests. With a lid. And a blindfold.)

#3- T H E  G R E E N  M O N S T E R (DINNER)

To start, I apologise about the pictures for this one ( blame the camera on my phone, it isn't the best for taking pictures of food loveliness)
Once again, a first attempt recipe and actually the first juice I made with my new blender. It is safe to say that the original outcome was a bit bitter, but I solved that problem three days and four batches later when I finally ran out of spinach. For all of you juicing newbies, the idea of spinach as a juice is scary, but it is surprisingly good.
The name of this juice is devoted to a friend of mine who likened it to Hulk- you know who you are.

 1 carrot, peeled and grated
1/4 cucumber, sliced ( peeling is optional)
Handful of spinach and kale
1 green apple, peeled and cut into chunks
Handful of green grapes, sliced in two

Add water and Blend!

For my green juices, I like to taste pulp, it makes it feel more "green" to me since the skin is usually where all the good stuff is.The darker the green of the vegetable the better because they are packed with kale  beta-carotene, vitamin C and vitamin K. Once again, spinach is a great source of fibre and if your nostalgic like me, you'll remember that it will make you string like Popeye.
If you find the green juice bland or not sweet enough, add more grapes or red apples and cut out some of the spinach/kale.

Love the pulp of a good green juice!

 #4- C H U N K Y  T R O P I C A L  S M O O T H I E (DESSERT)

Last, but not least is a dessert option. You will notice that this is not a juice but a smoothie ( my definition of a smoothie is a fruit juice made with milk not water, excuse my French if that isn't the real definition)
At the very end of my two week detox, I made myself this little treat as a way of thanking my body for co-operation; the taste of milk again was divine.
What's more, the little mango sat patiently ripening on my kitchen top and I confess- I sat in Sunday service just thinking about sinking my teeth into it.
Hence why this little gem is my favourite of them all.

1 whole ripe banana
1/2 mango, skinned and cut into chunks
Dash of cinnamon *optional*
1/2 cup of almond milk
ice *optional*

Blend! ( add an extra 30 seconds for a double dose of frothiness)
Look at those air bubbles!
This was honestly the creamiest smoothie I have ever tasted, and if you must give any of these a go yourself, do this one!

As a last tip, I recommend leaving your mango to ripen and then to preserve, chop the remaining mango into chunks and store in a food container int he freezer. When you are ready to use, rinse briefly under cold water to defrost

In all, although you might be afraid to try something new, if you start small, you won't even realise how many steps you have taken until you look behind you.
I noticed a difference in my energy levels, my attitude and even my physique which I was happy with. The chances wasn't ginormous and obvious to everyone around me, but I noticed them myself and that is the difference.

"Do something today that your future self will thank you for."
